“Strategy. Operations. Execution.”
“Strategy. Operations. Execution.”

The truth about an operation rarely appears during planning meetings.
It appears when expectations are high, timelines are fixed, and there is no longer time to compensate for gaps.
Several years ago, I was invited to support the reopening of a destination resort in the Okanagan...
Over a short period of time, trust had to be earned across multiple departments, leaders, and teams. Relationships had to be built quickly. Expectations had to be aligned. Decisions had to be made.
What stood out most was not the volume of work.
It was the level of interdependence.
Every decision influenced another.
Every team relied on another.
Every detail had the potential to elevate or diminish the guest experience.
That level of complexity is not managed through checklists.
It is managed through alignment.
As opening approached, the operation began to take shape.
Guests arriving by boat would be transported across the lake for a wine dinner overlooking the water.
Families would spend their day enjoying the beach and pools.
Golf guests would expect a seamless experience.
A wedding celebration would unfold later that evening.
From a guest perspective, these would feel like separate experiences.
Operationally, they were deeply connected.
What I remember most is not the reopening itself.
It is the moment uncertainty gave way to confidence.
The moment leaders stopped asking whether the operation was ready and began focusing on the guests in front of them.
By then, the work that mattered most had already been done.
The systems were in place.
The standards were understood.
The teams trusted one another.
The operation was prepared to perform.
Throughout my career, I have seen the same pattern repeat itself in hospitality organizations, major events, leadership teams, and service operations.
They are the organizations that earn readiness before it is tested.
Preparation is what creates confidence.
Confidence is not built under pressure. It is revealed by it.
